Confused? Yes I was totally disorientated!

Yesterday afternoon I met up with Andrew. We were only out for a couple of hours and after 2 glasses of wine we both went home. I had been feeling a bit lurgy-ish all week and didn't want to stay out late as I still felt slightly not 100%.

So by about 6/7pm I was back at home. I had something to eat (some v. nice shepherd's pie I made on Saturday) and settled down on the sofa for a brief nap.

I woke up with a start, it was light outside and my clock said it was 7.50! Bloody hell! I jumped up, turned on the radio, made some tea and ran the bath. Then I started feeling very ropey so I thought I'd go back to bed for half an hour and have to be a bit late for work.

P phoned and asked if I had had a nice afternoon. I said yes but I was feeling a bit ill, was still in bed and was thinking about calling in sick.

P then proceeded to inform me that it was actually 7.50 pm on Sunday night! I hadn't slept in at all! In fact I'd probably only been asleep for about 40 minutes.

That explained why the usual breakfast show presenters weren't on. I was completely disorientated! So after P managed to persuade me that it was in fact still Sunday I had some tea and went back to bed.

She sent me a text first thing this morning to confirm that it was now Monday.

So glad I didn't rush out of the house and go to work last night!

How Do I Find Companies Like These?

My boss has just brought her dog back from having a shampoo & set and a haircut. He is very excited because she has bought him a new toy. Its a squeaky duck. It is also bigger than he is (but he's only a little dog). It sounds a bit like one of those whistles Elmer Fudd uses when he is out hunting.

So its all 'woofs' and 'quacks' from the other side of the office today.

Its only slightly different to my other job where one of the staff has tourettes syndrome and makes yelping/peacock-type-noises.

You have to get up very early in the morning to find places as weird to work as I have.

A Voice for Radio? I think not

This morning Sock Monkey was invited onto BBC London 94.9 to talk about the film 'The Ghost Train'.

The presenters had asked listeners to 'phone in and nominate their favourite old British film and I called in to nominate this one. But Sock Monkey was en route to work when they called back and was going to be going in and out of tunnels so would have been cut off.

Thankfully.

Books in a bookcase and not all over the floor? What a good idea!!

This little beauty is being delivered to Sock Monkey Mansions tomorrow morning. Look it's a bloody expensive bookcase!

Actually it is really gorgeous, and the handles on the drawers are a nice detail. However, I am not entirely certain I can fit all my books in it as I have approximately 10 million of them. It is an occupational hazard what with working in publishing. It seems inevitable that some books will find a new home in my local charity shop.

I do hope they arrive before 12.30 as P is taking me to see the Lion King in the afternoon. Now, its not the usual thing I would go to see, but I've seen it before and its fantastic!

Then, if we can be bothered we may take a little trip to a club: 'How Does it Feel to be Loved?'. www.howdoesitfeel.co.uk/ They play all '60's girl groups, The Smiths, Belle and Sebastian and stuff like that. Its good fun. I can do some of my best Sock Monkey dancing there.

Sunday I'll be up to my neck in books and probably making my flat more untidy than it is now.

Seven Deadly Sins

Sock Monkey and Sam are off to see this tomorrow night.

http://www.sohotheatre.com/pl1475.html

Now I like The Tiger Lillies and loved the music they did for Shockheaded Peter so I was quite looking forward to their new show. However, I don't think Lyn Gardner from The Guardian enjoyed it very much:

"The title is only two-thirds right. This theatrical cabaret from cult band The Tiger Lillies is indeed deadly, but it commits considerably more than seven sins against theatre and the intelligence of its audience...

"The show limps on for 90 minutes that feel like an eternity, during which time I was guilty of suffering from the sin of envy, bitterly resentful of all those lucky enough never having to endure this puerile farce of an entertainment."

So great! She gives it one star though...

TV Programmes Are Obviously A Lot Like Busses

There is bog all on for eons then 4 programmes I want to see come along all together!

Tonight, all at 9pm:

BBC2 - Am I Normal - Addiction
Dr Tanya Byron explores the ideas of what is regarded as normal in this new series starting with some controversial views about addiction

BBC4 - Stephen Fry and the Guttenberg Press
The Medieval Season begins with the history of Johannes Guttenberg's printing press, which changed human civilisation forever

Channel 4 - Quest For The Lost Ark
Professor Tudor Parfitt [what a dreadful name!] continues his 20-year search for the last resting place of the Ark of the Covenant, believed to contain the Ten Commandments

Channel 5 - [and this one is obviously going to be extremely highbrow]
Extraordinary People: Half Man Half Tree
Dede from Indonesia is forced to work as a circus act thanks for a rare skin condition that causes tree-like growths on his hands and feet.

Sock Monkey is in a complete dilemma! How can I possibly choose which one one to watch??

TWISTER

Sock Monkey is disgusted.

Sock Monkey is shocked and disappointed.
Don't try to buy Twister on Kilburn High Road during your lunch break because it will be a futile expedition. No-one sells it. Not even Woolworths!
You can buy any amount of old tat on Kilburn High Road but not this classic game from the 1960's.
Pah - the dinner party I'm going to tonight is now ruined!

Sock Monkey has been out almost every night this week

Sock Monkey is a bit knackered today. It has been a v busy week.

Monday - sat on arse and watched tv. So far the week was quite relaxing

Tuesday - P and I went to see
The Woman in Black. at the Fortune Theatre. I've seen it twice before but P has never seen it. It is such a good play. A good old fashioned Victorian Ghost Story. A solicitor has to go to sort out the estate of a recently deceased old woman who lived in splendid isolation in a creepy old house. It starts off gently enough but during the second act the tension is slowly cranked up until it reaches a cresendo. Then just when you think 'phew that was a bit creepy' there's a nasty twist at the end. The Fortune Theatre is a great stage for it as this is a creeky old Victorian theatre.

When I saw it last year there was a herd of teenageers in on a school trip. As is their want the silly little girls appeared to have a 'who can scream the loudest' competition. They pre-empted every creepy bit, screaming blue murder which completely ruined the atmosphere and no-one could hear a word the actors said for the entire second act. Thankfully this time the school party who were seated all around us were very well behaved. In fact I felt a bit sorry for the nice, polite boy sitting beside me who literally jumped out of his seat at one point and grabbed his girlfriend!

Wednesday - Sock Monkey accompanied Marie to view her first flats. She is attempting to buy and has idiotically decided to ask Foxtons to search for her. I suggested that perhaps this wasn't the best idea. True to form, they showed her 2 properties which were vastly above her budget and were dumps in nasty areas. They did that to me when I was viewing to buy. Pass me a bargepole so I can refuse to touch them with it. Anyway, afterwards we went for a nice drink and a good ol' laugh. I hadn't seen her for about a year and we had loads to catch up on.

Thursday - Sock Monkey and Andrew went to see The Orphanage
www.theorphanagemovie.com/ It is soooo good! It is quite creepy but actually it is really sad. And the little boy looked so much like my nephew George it made it worse!

Tonight I am accompanying 'The Girls' on a visit to Clare's new flat. She lives in a lovely new, very high up flat which overlooks where the Olympic Stadium will be. I shall be purchasing Twister at lunch time so we can have some relaxing after- dinner entertainment.

Tomorrow - P and I are going to the theatre or the cinema depending on what tickles our fancy.

Don't even try to imagine how much I have spent on taxis this week...
